Acknowledgments

And now I am writing this part. Yay !!

Danke banya Tete Manis and thanks be to God, who never leave me alone during the journey and had provided everything I needed from the start to the final stage. I want to express huge gratitude and thanks to Papi, Mami, Alen, Oly and John for supporting me through your pray. It would not have been possible to finish such this remarkable doctoral thesis without incredible supports and courage from many parties around me. Hence, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to those who had helped me in this journey.

Foremost, I would like to convey my gratitude and appreciation to my patient and supportive promotor Prof. dr. Anita, G.J. Buma for her precious time spent for guiding me to be an independent researcher. I could never thank you enough for knowledge that you had imparted during the PhD program. Many thanks are also for my co-supervisor, Dr. M. Karin de Boer, who had shared her knowledge and asked challenging questions that shaped my mind-set to be a good thinker in organizing and doing advanced research. Both of you were reachable and very insightful during our weekly meeting, which indeed had accelerated my lab work, data analyses and the writing process.

I would like to thank the evaluation committee, Prof. Klaas R. Timmermans, Prof. Allan Cembella and Prof. Michele Burford for your time in evaluating and assessing the thesis independently. Kind gratitude I also express to all of my co-authors and my students.

I want to extend my gratitude to Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP), Ministry of Fund, Republik Indonesia, for providing the doctoral scholarship and supporting me financially during my PhD in Groningen.

I would like to say huge thank you for all former and current members of Ocean Ecosystems Department, Klaas van Manen, Willem Diderich, Elsa, Patrick, Gemma, Ronald, Natan, Denis Worst, Willem van de Poll, Richard Bintanja, Eize Stamhuis and Xiaoyin Fang. Special thanks to Loes Venekamp for supervising me in the lab and Cindy van Boggelen for helping me dealing with administration issues. Also I would like to thank my Indonesian colleague mas Lana Azim for sharing and going together through the PhD journey. To kaks Petrus Farneubun (PhD cand.), I want to express my thanks for being a friend and brother in Groningen.
