Niet alle vragen konden binnen dit onderzoek beantwoord worden. Met name over de gebruikte verfmethodes en de herkomst van producten is nog veel onduidelijk. Verder onderzoek in eigentijdse bronnen, aangevuld met analytisch onderzoek naar de aanwezige elementen in de textiel, zou meer informatie over verfmethodes kunnen opleveren.
Met het oog op preventieve conservering is het van belang om de precieze omvang van dit probleem te inventariseren. Een dergelijke inventarisatie zou zich dan met name moeten richten op de vraag of dit probleem specifiek is voor religieus textiel en vaandels uit de periode rond 1900 en of het ook voor kan komen bij andere soorten textiel uit dezelfde periode.
Een ander punt dat van belang is voor de preventieve conservering, is om vast te stellen of een hoge relatieve luchtvochtigheid een risico vormt voor kleuruitloop. Uit de hier
uitgevoerde test met relatieve luchtvochtigheid is duidelijk geworden hoe eventuele vervolgtesten verfijnd kunnen worden.
onderzoek een hypothese opgesteld. Deze zal in een vervolgonderzoek getest moeten worden. Objecten die tot nu toe werden beschouwd als onherstelbaar beschadigd en daarmee hun waarde hebben verloren, kunnen daarmee voor de toekomst behouden blijven.
