Curriculum Vitae

Nelleke Laure IJssennagger (12 June 1986, Hengelo, the Netherlands) started her PhD at the University of Groningen in 2011 (in part-time). At this university, she earlier received her free BA in Scandinavian Studies with Archaeology (cum laude/with distinction) and completed the Research Master Classical Medieval and Renaissance Studies (cum laude/with distinction). In the course of her MA, she was graduate intern at the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden (Medieval Department) and visiting student at the University of York (Medieval Studies). During her PhD she taught a course on Vikings and Hansards, gave guest lectures in the Netherlands and abroad and was on the editorial board of two journals (Madoc / De Vrije Fries). Besides conducting her PhD, Nelleke has been working at the Museum of Friesland (Fries Museum) in Leeuwarden as Curator of Archaeological and Medieval Collections since 2011.

Nelleke has published on Vikings, Frisians, the North Sea World, material culture, the coastal area and the Medieval period in general. In September 2017, the volume

Frisians and their North Sea Neighbours from the fifth century to the Viking Age, which she co-edited with prof. John Hines (Cardiff University), appeared with Boydell & Brewer.
