Curriculum vitae

183 Ernst Willem (Wim) Meerholz was born in Groningen in

1987. Wim completed his bachelor degree in Psychology (cum laude) at the University of Groningen in 2009, after which he was admitted to the Research Master 'Human Behaviour in Social Contexts'. For his master thesis (under the supervision of Prof. Tom Postmes) he studied the emergence of congruent and complementary emotions in interactions, partially at Cardiff University. Wim graduated cum laude in 2011.

He then applied successfully for a PhD position under the supervision of Prof. Russell Spears and Dr. Kai Epstude at the University of Groningen, and studied how the other-focused nature of compassion can allow us to avoid painful identity threatening information in intergroup and interpersonal situations. He presented his research at a number of national and international conferences. In addition to this he taught courses and supervised bachelor and master students at the Psychology program at the University of Groningen. He supervised research on topics such as empathy, moral grandstanding, taboos, multiculturalism, work-life balance satisfaction, and free will-perceptions. Since January 2016, Wim has been working as a teacher at the University of Groningen.
