About the author
Iteke van Hille was born on December 30, 1987, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She received a BSc in Sociology from the University of Amsterdam with a minor in 20th century history, in 2011. Subsequently, Iteke completed a Social Research Master (track organization sciences) at VU University Amsterdam, obtaining her MSc degree in 2013 (cum laude).
After completing her MSc, Iteke started
working as a practitioner at IDH, the Sustainable Trade Initiative where she gained practical experience in convening cross-sector partnerships for sustainable development in global supply chains. At IDH, she worked in the fruit and vegetables-, soy-, spices-, and flowers industries, and was involved in a project on benchmarking sustainability certification standards. In 2014, she successfully applied for a Research Talent grant, provided by the Dutch Science Council (NWO), which allowed her to start a fully-funded PhD trajectory at the department of Organization Sciences of the VU University in Amsterdam. Iteke started her PhD trajectory initially part-time in 2015, combining her academic employment with her work as a practitioner at IDH.
In addition to her PhD research, Iteke repeatedly taught a course on strategies of societal organizations at MSc-level and, in addition, supervised several MSc thesis students. She coordinated the ‘PhD-club’ of the department for two years, and contributed to the 2018 edition of the Annual Review of Social Partnerships. During her PhD-trajectory, Iteke presented her work at 12 international conferences. In 2020, she was invited as panelist at the Cross-Sector Social Interactions symposium. Three chapters from her dissertation appeared as articles in international peer-reviewed journals: Organization & Environment, Sustainability, and Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management. Iteke also delivered three practitioner reports for the benefit of her host organizations: her research is strongly embedded in practice.
Iteke is currently employed as Researcher at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences).
