206 About the author
Navessa Padma Tania was born in Bandung, Indonesia on April 12nd in 1986. After finishing her final project at the Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, she obtained her bachelor degree in Microbiology at the Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia in 2008. Upon graduation, she worked as a research assistant at the Mochtar Riady Institute for Nanotechnology.
In 2010, she was awarded with a talent grant from the Groningen Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute, to participate in a 2-year Topmaster program in Biomolecular Sciences at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. During her master studies, she developed her scientific skills at the Department of Molecular Genetics, and she participated in the 2011 international Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition in synthetic biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. As a final master project, she performed a collaborative project at the University Medical Center Groningen between the Department of Medical Oncology and the Department of Molecular Pharmacology.
Upon completion of her master degree, she started her PhD studies at the Department of Molecular Pharmacology, at the University of Groningen in close collaboration with the Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam. In 2015, she won an abstract award from American Thoracic Society in Denver, USA. Her research focused on the roles of Follistatin-like 1 in the lung is presented in this thesis.
