Curriculum Vitae

Chiara Piccoli (Trento, 1982) is employed as a Teaching/Research staff member of the Digital Archaeology Research group at the Faculty of Archaeology in Leiden. Within the group, she teaches 3D modelling in archaeology and is the internship coordinator for the MSc in Digital Archaeology. Her expertise lies in the use of 3D modelling techniques and 2D-3D GIS to visualize and analyze archaeological evidence.

After finishing high school at the Classical Lyceum in Trento, Chiara obtained a BA in Cultural Heritage at the University of Trento (cum laude) and an MA in Greek and Roman Archaeology at the University of Siena (cum laude). She participated in several excavations and surveys in Italy, Greece and Morocco.

From 2010 to 2014, she was employed at the Faculty of Archaeology of Leiden University as a researcher for the European project CEEDS, which aimed at developing novel integrated technologies that support experiencing, analyzing and understanding complex datasets. Besides her archaeological curriculum, she obtained a Master Degree in Book and Digital Media Studies at Leiden University (cum laude, Tiele- Stichting Thesis Prize 2011 for the best thesis in the field of Book History in the Netherlands), where she gained also experience in the digitization of archive materials.

Her research interests include urban studies, visual studies, and the exploitation of digital tools and new technologies for documentation, visualization, analysis and dissemination.
