Samengevat onderzoekt deze masterproef de relatie tussen MVO en de betrokkenheid van werknemers van lokale besturen. Omwille van deze context werd societal impact als verklarend mechanisme opgenomen en het belang van other-regarding values geanalyseerd.

Het effect van de diverse MVO-initiatieven op AOC werd simultaan bestudeert. Uit deze analyses blijkt dat MVO-initiatieven gericht naar werknemers het grootste effect hebben op AOC. Voor zover onze kennis, is dit de eerste studie die in de context van lokale besturen het verklarend effect van societal impact en de modererende rol van other-regarding values onderzoekt. Uit de resultaten van dit onderzoek blijkt dat societal impact de relatie tussen MVO-initiatieven gericht naar de burger en AOC volledig medieert. Bovendien is deze relatie sterker bij werknemers die gekenmerkt worden door other-regarding values. Tot slot wordt ook de relatie tussen MVO-initiatieven gericht naar de werknemer en AOC partieel gemedieerd door societal impact. Deze bevindingen wijzen op belangrijke implicaties voor zowel de academische wereld als de praktijk.
