Climate Prediction Center’s Hispaniola Hazards Outlook For USAID / FEWS-NET

Reduced rainfall totals observed in Haiti during the past week.
Moderate to heavy (30-50mm) rains were observed across the Centre and Artibonite departments of Haiti during the past seven days.
Light to moderate (10-30mm) rains fell across the Nord, Nord Est, and Sud Est departments, while little to no (< 10mm) rains fell in the Nord Ouest and Grand’Anse of northwestern and southwestern departments of Haiti during the past week. The poor rainfall distribution during the past several weeks has worsened the dryness in the northwestern and southwestern regions of the country.
During the last thirty days, rainfall deficits have accounted between 75 and 90% of the average; however the insufficient rainfall amounts have already led to wilting conditions in local areas of northwestern Haiti. Rainfall forecasts for the upcoming week indicate a continuation of reduced rainfall across Haiti, with isolated heavy (> 50mm) rains over local areas of the Nord, Artibonite, and Sud Est departments. The continuation of reduced rainfall could negatively impact cropping conditions in many local areas of the region.
