Het is aan te bevelen de deskresearch periodiek, bijvoorbeeld jaarlijks te herhalen. Daarmee kan de voortgang in de ontwikkeling van activiteiten door bibliotheken op het terrein van databeheer inzich- telijk worden gemaakt. Nieuwe meerjarenbeleidsplannen en aanpassingen op websites van bibliothe- ken kunnen daarin meegenomen worden. De deskresearch kan uitgebreid worden met het analyseren van de overkoelende beleidsplannen van de universiteiten zelf. In hoeverre dringt het beleid van bibliotheken door bij colleges van bestuur?

Niet alleen bij de onderzochte dertien universiteiten wordt wetenschappelijk onderzoek ver- richt. Binnen andere instellingen voor hoger onderwijs, overheidsorganisaties en in het bedrijfsleven vindt eveneens wetenschappelijk onderzoek plaats. Daarbij ontstaan digitale onderzoeksdata. Het is aan te bevelen het databeheer bij deze organisaties alsmede de ondersteunende rol van de eventueel aan deze instellingen gelieerde bibliotheken mee te nemen in een vervolgonderzoek.
