For decades there has been an ecumenical debate about how the disciplines of missiology and ecclesiology relate to the nature and mission of the church.
This book investigates how the Church of England is responding to post- Christendom developments of ecclesiology and missiology as expressed in Anglican ecclesial polity in England. The study makes a contribution towards a more contemporary missional ecclesiology for the Church of England by bringing the Mission-shaped Church report (2004) into dialogue with significant contemporary influences on Anglican ecclesiology. This research defines the Church of England as an agent of God’s mission when the church witnesses to God’s kingdom in the world. It evaluates the four creedal marks of the church with a missional hermeneutic by expressing the priority of the apostolic nature of the church.
Mark Collinson is Director of Ministry in the Diocese of Winchester in the Church of England. He leads the School of Mission, which seeks to serve the whole people of God by helping them to discern their vocation, train, equip and support them in ministry and mission. He was formerly the Chaplain of the Christ Church Amsterdam (2001-15) and Area Dean of the Netherlands and Canon Principal of Winchester Cathedral (2015-20). After an initial career in international banking and management consulting he studied his initial theology at Cambridge University (MA Cantab) and research masters at the Vrije Universiteit.
