Hazards Impacts Assessment for Hispaniola January 6 – January 12, 2011

Light rainfall is expected over Hispaniola during the next seven days.

During the last observation period, seasonably light to fair amounts (5-15mm) of rainfall were observed throughout Hispaniola. The highest rainfall accumulations were received along the southern coastal departments (~20mm), with little to no rainfall observed across the central highlands during the last seven days. Over the last 30 days, anomalously wet conditions have prevailed throughout many local areas in southern Haiti, with marginally drier than average conditions observed in the north. Precipitation forecasts suggest a suppression of rains across Hispaniola during the next week, which may strengthen moisture deficits for the some local areas in the northern departments of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
