Hazards Impacts Assessment for Hispaniola April 15 – April 21, 2010

ƒ An increase in rainfall expected for southeastern Haiti during the upcoming observation period.

During the last observation period, precipitation was fair across Hispaniola. Light rainfall amounts between 10- 25 mm were received in the southern departments of Haiti, with lesser totals observed in central and northern departments over the last seven days. Since January, below average rainfall has led to marginal dryness over some local areas in the Arbonite and Ouest departments. These moisture deficits are not expected to cause major concerns as seasonal planting begins during the next several weeks. Rainfall forecast suggest a considerable increase in precipitation, with some areas expected to receive amounts ranging between 30-60 mm in the next seven days.
