Haiti Weather Hazards and Benefits Assessment

For

May 7 – May 13, 2009

In the last seven days, fair to moderate precipitation was observed across Hispaniola. The heaviest totals (50- 75mm) were received in central Dominican Republic, with lesser rain totals (25- 50mm) observed across the central and southern departments of Haiti. Since April, precipitation has continued to remain at / or near average, leading to favorable growing conditions for all of active cropping regions in Haiti. Rainfall forecasts suggest no departure in rains during the next observation period, with rainfall ranging between 30 -75mm throughout both coastal and highland regions of Hispaniola.
