Hazards Impacts Assessment for Hispaniola December 30, 2010 – January 5, 2011

Light rainfall continues across Hispaniola.

During the last seven days, seasonably fair amounts (5-15) of precipitation were received throughout Hispaniola. The highest weekly rainfall accumulations (10-20mm) were observed in the southern departments of Haiti, as well as in northeastern Dominican Republic.

Precipitation has been generally above-average over Haiti during the last 30 days, with moderate rainfall surpluses ranging between 20- 50mm extending across the southern Haitian peninsula. Across the border, however, precipitation has been relatively below-average with 30-day moisture deficits observed throughout a number of local areas in the Dominican Republic. Rainfall forecasts suggest a decrease in precipitation over Haiti during the next week, with an increase in rainfall (10-20mm) over the Dominican Republic.
