Climate Prediction Center’s Hispaniola Hazards Outlook For USAID / FEWS-NET
January 24 – January 30, 2013
Moderate rain showers were observed across northeastern Dominican Republic.
During the past week, the heaviest rainfall (10-30mm) was observed across northeastern Dominican Republic and around Port- au-Prince in Haiti. Elsewhere, little to no rainfall (<5mm) was observed across Hispaniola. During the month of January, rains are expected to be climatologically light. However, current thirty-day rainfall has been slightly below average (20-50mm) across much of Hispaniola. Even with the below-average thirty-day rains, vegetation conditions show no sign of degradation across Haiti and the Dominican Republic. For the next week, light to moderate rain showers (5-20mm) are forecast across eastern Dominican Republic and localized areas in northern and southern Haiti. Little to no rain (<5mm) is expected across central regions of Hispaniola.
