The inherentsocio-technicalcomplexity ofriverresearch, varieties ofresearch disci -plines,methods and end-users poses challenges foreffective communication [1].

Effectiveness is notonly aboutusage monitoring [2]butalso relies on the evaluation ofthe effectiveness in terms ofcontent, process and intended outcome [3].

Differentexperiences and interests in rivermanagementinfluence opinions ofthe va-rieties ofend-users aboutthe meaning, applicability and consequences forsustainability [4]ofthe implemented riverinterventions.

Researchers should presentresults, underlying assumptions and methodological choices [5]in a clear, simple and recognizable contextto the intended audience [6].

Presented information should be usefuland relevantwhile encouraging reflection, common understanding and learning aboutthe problem complexity[5].

A totalof21 researchers each with a topic in geo-morphology,hydraulic engineering, ecology and environmentalmanagementstudy the effects ofinterventions such the ones implemented in Room forthe River(Figure 1).

We targeta multi-disciplinary audience (Figure 2) ofresearchers, representatives of governmentand non-governmentorganizations interested in rivermanagement.
