Acute dystonie
Acute dystonie gaat gepaard met abnormale houdingen of spasmen van de spieren van hoofd, hals, ledematen of romp. De klachten kunnen enkele dagen na het starten of ophogen van de
behandeling met antipsychotica optreden. Anti-emetica en antivertigomiddelen (metoclopramide, promethazine, cinnarizine, flunarizine), antidepressiva (SSRI’s, tricyclische antidepressiva), antimalariamiddelen ((hydro)chloroquine), anticonvulsiva (carbamazepine, fenytoïne), diazepam en cocaïne kunnen echter ook een acute dystonie veroorzaken. Als risicofactoren worden onder andere jonge leeftijd, acute dystonie in de voorgeschiedenis, recent cocaïnegebruik en mannelijk geslacht genoemd. Een levensbedreigende dystonie met een bedreigde ademweg (stridor bij een laryngospasme) komt zelden voor. 1
