4) C ONCLUSIE

Cognitieve interventies hebben een duidelijk potentieel om de symptomatische progressie van AD te vertragen. De toegevoegde waarde tegenover medicatie in monotherapie is duidelijk, er bestaan vele beloftevolle onderzoeken en neurobiologische veranderingen werden vastgelegd via beeldvorming. Toch is aan deze interventies een inherente complexiteit verbonden. Zowel variabele aspecten van de interventies zelf als karakteristieken van de individuele PWA’s zorgen voor een bijzonder heterogene literatuur, met sterk variërende effectgroottes en

onduidelijkheden. Ook methodologische problemen, waaronder het gebruik van verschillende controlegroepen, het niet correct gebruiken van de bestaande terminologie, te kleine steekproefgroottes etc. zorgen ervoor dat de bewijskracht voor deze interventies belemmerd wordt. Meer onderzoek is dus nodig, waarbij de focus vooral zal moeten liggen in het ontwikkelen van gepersonaliseerde CR-interventies die rekening houden met het individu in zijn totaliteit en in combinatie met medicatie. Dergelijke holistische aanpak zou immers de meest effectieve zijn.
