Zoals bij ieder onderzoek zijn er ook aan deze masterproef beperkingen verbonden. Zo werd het onderzoek en de analyse slechts door één onderzoeker uitgevoerd. Daarom moeten de geanalyseerde thema’s met de nodige voorzichtigheid worden geïnterpreteerd. Zoals eerder is aangehaald, bevat de interpretatie van kwalitatieve data altijd een subjectieve component. Het is daarom niet evident om een volledige betrouwbaarheid en validiteit te garanderen (Howitt, 2010; Miles & Huberman, 1994).
Daarenboven kunnen er ook enkele aanbevelingen voor vervolgonderzoek worden geformuleerd. Allereerst bestonden de respondenten van dit onderzoek uit de onderwijsexperts van de Vlaamse politieke partijen. Om een diepgaander en vollediger beeld te verschaffen van de visies van deze politieke partijen kan er een documentenanalyse worden uitgevoerd naar de schriftelijke standpunten. Verder kan er een decretenanalyse worden uitgevoerd om de geschiedenis van burgerschapseducatie binnen de wetgeving te verduidelijken en te vergelijken met de tegenwoordige standpunten van de onderwijsspecialisten. Ten tweede zou er kunnen worden nagagaan welke invloed het Europees beleidsniveau heeft op de burgerschapsontwikkeling in het Vlaams onderwijslandschap.
