6.1 Aanvullend onderzoek

6.1 Aanvullend onderzoek
De sample van dit onderzoek is geen complete representatie van de verslaggeving van het Israël-Palestinaconflict in The New York Times en het NRC Handelsblad. Om stevigere conclusies te kunnen trekken is daarom aanvullend onderzoek nodig. Daarbij kan het waardevol zijn om met een grotere sample onderzoek te doen naar dezelfde periode. Daarmee kan met meer zekerheid worden vastgesteld op wat voor manier het spanningsveld tussen het professionele en het culturele narratief in die jaren tot uiting komt. Om een representatief beeld te krijgen, moet er niet alleen worden gekeken naar momenten wanneer er sprake is van vrede of het oplaaien van het conflict, maar naar verslaggeving over het Israël-Palestinaconflict in het algemeen.
Daarnaast kan het interessant zijn om te kijken naar de manier waarop nieuwsartikelen over Israël en de Palestijnse gebieden worden ontvangen door nieuwsconsumenten. Op die manier kan er worden getracht meer uitsluitsel te geven over het ontstaan van een dergelijk cultureel narratief. Wanneer veel lezers van het NRC Handelsblad bijvoorbeeld stellen dat zij het perspectief ten faveure van de Palestijnen het liefst terugzien in hun krant, zal daarmee met een enigszins stevigere argumentatie gezegd kunnen worden dat journalisten van het NRC Handelsblad mede daarom dit culturele narratief (onbewust) tot uiting laten komen in hun nieuwsartikelen.
