Light rainfall was observed along the Gulf of Belize during the past 7 days

During the month of March, the northern part of Honduras and a portion of northeastern Nicaragua has registered the major amount of precipitation for the season which is also the case for the 3-Month CPC Unified Gauge anomaly. According to local report, the poor draining management has resulted to a degradation of the vegetation health over the northwestern part of Honduras. The vegetation health index shows some growing vegetation over northern Nicaragua and Guatemala while Honduras is struggling over the central and northern part of the country. The temperature is getting warmer over Central America progressively which slowly indicate the end of the winter season.

During the beginning of April, a significant increase in precipitation is expected possibly signaling the onset of Primera rains for many regions in Central America. For the next outlook period, the GEFS week 1 predicts moderate to heavy rainfall over the western part of Guatemala. El Salvador and the southern part of Honduras should expect light rainfall. The eastern coastal area of Nicaragua should expect some showers for the coming week.
