Climate Prediction Center’s Hispaniola Hazards Outlook For USAID / FEWS-NET
February 14 – February 20, 2013
Increased rainfall fell over Hispaniola during the past week.
During the past week, moderate rainfall fell across central Haiti and the west-central portions of neighboring Dominican Republic. Light rainfall was observed elsewhere. In Haiti, rainfall has been frequent and above- average, resulting in rainfall surpluses approaching 100 mm throughout the Île de la Gonâve and Port-au-Prince region of the Ouest department. Slightly below-average rainfall has, however, been observed across the northern half of the Dominican Republic during the past thirty days. The latest analysis of vegetation conditions derived from remote sensing overall shows adequate conditions across Hispaniola. During the next week, dry weather is forecast to continue across Hispaniola, with light rainfall across the southern Peninsula of Haiti, northern coasts and eastern Dominican Republic.
