The MHC loci are highly polymorphic. The HLA-A, -B, -C, -DRB1, -DQB1 and DPB1 genes show a great deal of variation between individuals, although some loci more than the others.21 Each locus consists of two co-dominant alleles. Conversely, it is common to have

two different alleles per gene and to express both. Although MHC is highly polymorphic, MHC molecules have both polymorphic and constant or conserved sites.
