Mirja Tamara Prentzell was born on July 24, 1985 in Mainz (Germany). After her graduation from Highschool in 2004 she studied Biology at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg (Germany). During her studies she mainly focused on evolutionary biology & animal ecology, biological anthropology, neurobiology & animal physiology, genetics and immunobiology. During her studies she broaded her horizon and did several internships beyond the study curriculum, among them an internship in the Emmy Noether Research Group for Evolutionary Psychology in Göttingen (Germany) under the supervision of Dr. Bernhard Fink with the topic skin ageing and perception, as well as an interdisciplinary course in Nürnberg (Germany) under the supervision of Dr. Udo Gansloßer about social relationships in mammals. She also set high value on scientific communication and statistical analysis and participated in courses on science journalism and multivariate statistics. In addition, she worked as a student assistant for several departments at Freiburg University and for instance supervised future biology teachers four years in a row.
In 2010 Mirja Tamara Prentzell joined the research group of Prof. Dr. Kathrin Thedieck on Functional Proteomics of Metabolic Signaling within the Laboratory for Bioinformatics and Molecular Genetics of Prof. Dr. Ralf Baumeister for her diploma thesis. During her one year of research she successfully characterized a novel mTOR interactor under oxidative stress. After obtaining her Diploma in Biology (Master of Science) in 2011 she stayed in the research group of Prof. Dr. Kathrin Thedieck where she worked first as a research assistant and later joined as a PhD student.
In 2012 Mirja Tamara Prentzell received a PhD fellowship from the Spemann Graduate School for Biology and Medicine and after several lab rotations at Freiburg University, Freiburg University Medical Center and the Freiburg Max-Planck-Institute of Immunology and Epigenetics, started her PhD on the Crosstalk of the mTOR network in the group of Prof. Dr. Kathrin Thedieck. In August 2014 she joint her supervisor Prof. Kathrin Thedieck in the Laboratory for Metabolic Signaling in the Department of Pediatrics at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), The Netherlands. In January 2016 she joined the Brain Cancer Metabolism research group of Dr. Christiane Opitz at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg (DKFZ), where she is working since Janu-ary 2018 as a Postdoc.
