1. A fundamental issue for any kind of metropolitan planning is that the organisations involved spend less time, less cost and less effort. (This thesis)
2. Effective coordination for metropolitan planning is developed through two crucial arenas: the institutional setting to govern the entire metropolitan region, and the arrangement for multi-actor coordination. (This thesis)
3. Metropolitan governance requires acknowledgement of three fundamental approaches: regionalism, localism, and new regionalism. (This thesis)
4. Coordination arrangements for metropolitan planning require capacity for two interrelated mechanisms: a framework to create coherent plans and engagement strategies between the organisations involved, and mechanism to implement them collectively. (This thesis)
5. A series of prototypes can be identified to analyse varieties of metropolitan planning and their dynamic shifts. (This thesis)
