Dit onderzoek is uitgevoerd onder de business unit managers binnen Nederland. Het is mogelijk dat de cultuur, het gedrag of de trend in andere landen anders is waardoor meer of minder nadruk ligt op bepaalde keuzes of structuren. Te denken valt daarbij aan organisatiecultuur, beloningsstructuren maar ook innovatief gedrag. Vervolgonderzoeken kunnen uitgevoerd worden in andere landen om te kijken of de gevonden resultaten ook daar significant aangetoond kunnen worden. Daarmee is het ook mogelijk om een vergelijking te maken tussen de managers in Nederland en managers uit andere landen. Daarnaast kan een vervolgonderzoek in een grotere groep of setting het mogelijk maken om te kijken of de bevindingen in dit onderzoek per industrie aangetoond kunnen worden. Een grotere steekproef zal bovendien de externe validiteit van het onderzoek vergroten. Ook kan de link tussen variabele beloningen en innovatie worden gemeten door de variabele beloningen in percentages te nemen in plaats twee waarden die elkaar uitsluiten (wel/geen variabele beloningen). Daarmee kan worden gekeken of het innovatievermogen meer wordt naarmate de variabele beloningen een hogere percentage hebben.
