In dit hoofdstuk zullen de beperkingen van het onderzoek besproken worden, evenals de suggesties voor verder onderzoek. Dit onderzoek heeft een aantal beperkingen. Een eerste beperking is de definitie van innovatief gedrag. In dit onderzoek is innovatief gedrag gedefinieerd als de mate waarin een kapper relatief gezien eerder is in het adopteren van nieuwe producten dan andere kapers in zijn omgeving. Er is in dit onderzoek specifiek gevraagd naar het adopteren van nieuwe producten. Wellicht levert innovatief gedrag in een bredere zin, waarin ook nieuwe werkwijzen worden meegenomen, nieuwe inzichten op. Dit is tevens een suggestie voor verder onderzoek. Onderzocht zou kunnen worden welke factoren een rol spelen bij het innovatief gedrag van kappers als het gaat om zowel het gebruik van nieuwe producten als om nieuwe werkwijzen, en wat deze rol inhoudt. Een andere suggestie voor verder onderzoek is welke factoren, naast de in dit onderzoek behandelde factoren, het innovatief gedrag van een ondernemer beïnvloeden en op welke wijze. Uit dit onderzoek is namelijk gebleken dat het innovatief gedrag van een kapper voor een kleine 9% wordt verklaard door de organisatie- en persoonlijke kenmerken die in dit onderzoek zijn meegenomen.

Tot slot is de wijze waarop performance gemeten is een beperking. De wijze waarop het in dit onderzoek is gemeten is namelijk volledig subjectief. Het is lastig om performance op een objectieve manier te meten, aangezien het moeilijk is om aan bijvoorbeeld gegevens als omzet, winst of marktaandeel te komen. Toch zou in een volgend onderzoek gemeten kunnen worden of het innovatief gedrag van een kapper een even grote invloed zou hebben op de performance van de onderneming in harde cijfers, als het hier heeft op de performance subjectief gemeten.
