4. Beantwoording hoofdvraag

5.3 Aanvullend onderzoek

Dit onderzoek dient te worden gezien als een eerste theoretische verkenning van flexibiliteit en haar relatie met het midden- en kleinbedrijf. Achteraf kan geconcludeerd worden dat flexibiliteit een complex onderwerp is dat samenhangt met vele aspecten van een organisatie. Het onderzoek geeft een eerste beeld van de dimensies van flexibiliteit en het verband met het midden- en kleinbedrijf. Een punt van kritiek kan zijn dat bepaalde onderdelen vrij algemeen zijn besproken. In mijn optiek is met dit onderzoek het raamwerk neergezet van waaruit de verschillende, met elkaar samenhangende concepten, nader kunnen worden uitgewerkt. Het raamwerk is bruikbaar omdat het houvast biedt voor verder onderzoek en empirische toetsing. Achteraf lijkt flexibiliteit voor een grootdeel samen te hangen met de bedrijfsomvang. In hoeverre kenmerken van het midden- en kleinbedrijf veranderen naarmate de bedrijfsomvang toeneemt is in dit onderzoek echter geen rekening gehouden. Met name

omslagpunten waarbij de bedrijfskenmerken veranderen zullen van belang zijn om een verdeling in subgroepen mogelijk te maken. Geconcludeerd kan worden dat dit onderzoek een fundament heeft neergezet waarbinnen de volgende stap ligt in het eenduidig meetbaar maken van de geïdentificeerde kenmerken van flexibiliteit. Het eenduidig meetbaar maken van flexibiliteit verhoogt de validiteit van het model en zorgt ervoor dat het model toepasbaar wordt om empirische toetsing van de bevindingen rondom flexibiliteit mogelijk te maken.
