Curriculum vitae
Jelmer studied Ecology and Evolution at the University of Groningen for his BSc degree
and did his MSc degree at the University of Uppsala in Sweden. For his MSc thesis he
travelled to Germany to work at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology on the effects of
light pollution on dawn and dusk singing in European songbirds in collaboration with
Arnaud Da Silva and Bart Kempenaers. After that he did his PhD at the University of
Groningen in the Conservation Ecology group with Christiaan both and Joost Tinbergen,
the results of which can be read in this book. In April of 2018 he started his postdoc on a
transect study at the University of Edinburgh in collaboration with Ally Phillimore and
Jarrod Hadfield, looking at the effects of space and time on fitness in blue tits.
