Haiti Weather Hazards and Benefits Assessment

FEWS NET is a USAID-funded activity whose purpose is to provide objective information about food security conditions. During the June 19th –25th observation period, rainfall totals were well above average over the majority of Hispaniola, with lighter totals observed along the northwestern Haitian extremity.
Precipitation totals since the start of June have been above average. In the higher terrains of the northern and central provinces anomalies are in excess of 200% of normal. Rainfall has been abundant and beneficial for cropping activities during the 2008 season. During the period rainfall is expected to taper off providing favorable conditions for harvest activities. Rainfall totals less than 20 mm are expected through the 30th.
