As this PhD thesis ends my schooling, I chose to write this final chapter using the same colours of my very first pens.
I have always seen thankfulness as a ne-cessity, not as a duty. Here I would like to thank numerous amazing individuals who have made this thesis possible.

Over the last years I had the pleasure to work at ASTRON and meet won-derful scientists. First, I would like to thank ASTRON for the financial sup-port for travelling. I thank the AGN group people, for the stimulating meet-ings. Robert, thanks also for your in-credible video for the press release! I am really grateful to the JIVE researchers, for all the support in the reduction of VLBI data, but also for or-ganizing workshops. Dear Netherlands, thanks for your hos-pitality. When I have to explain how living here in Groningen is, I like to cite what Italo Calvino wrote after reading a verse of Dante’s Purgatorio: "Fan-tasy is a place where it rains". This is indeed a place full of creativity, futur-istic.
