Five years ago I moved to Groningen in order to start my PhD. I am grateful for having many people around me that has contributed in many different ways to this thesis.

Dear supervisors, thank you for helping me to reach my dreams. Riemer Slart, thank you for approving many of my ideas, whether they were research related or side projects. This thesis is finished because of your mentorship, regardless of what day of the week it was, and because you constantly showed me that I truly have your support. Erick Alexanderson, it has been almost a decade since we met at UNAM. Thank you for inspiring me to be a researcher at such a young age, which really changed my life. Rene Tio, thank you for being so critical in each manuscript, it challenged me to become a better researcher. Our meetings have been truly missed since you moved to Eindhoven.
