Hazards Assessment Text Explanation:

1. The northern and central portions of Belize continued to receive substantial rain over the past week. Estimates indicate that much of Belize was between normal and 200% above normal for the month of September. The pattern is continuing thus far for October with rainfall totals well above normal for the month. This recent rain will help improve soil moisture and the water supply but it does not remove the uneven distribution of rain that dates back to June. The forecast indicates the region will continue to be wet throughout the next week.

2. The Postrera season got off to a good start in central Honduras and northwestern Nicaragua, but the first half of October has been between 25% and 75% of normal for the month. This recent dryness trend does not bode well for the region as plentiful moisture is beneficial during this time of the season. The forecast calls for beneficial rains over the weekend.
