Tropical Storm Adrian is moving northeast from the equatorial Pacific and is already beginning to impact the coastal areas of Guatemala and El Salvador. Currently, a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the coasts of El Salvador and Guatemala. A Tropical Storm Warning and a Hurricane Watch may be necessary by late Wednesday. Landfall is expected along the El Salvador coast during the day on Thursday. The storm is forecasted to continue the northeasterly track through western and northern Honduras while losing strength. Widespread flooding is expected with rainfall amounts of 150 to 250 mm. Some locations in the mountains will experience severe flooding with rainfall totals of 400 mm or more. Following the dry season, the threat of mud/land slides will be high. The storm could reach minimal hurricane strength by landfall, resulting in some wind-related damage near the center of circulation. However, the main threat is flooding.
