I would like to thank Eurotango and those people that I never met, but offered me the priceless opportunity to do my PhD in Europe. I would like to express my gratitude to my supervisor. Dear Dick, thank you for accepting me into your research group, for supporting my PhD, for all the advice, and for investing many hours in reading and improving my manuscripts.
Thank you also, to two talented post-docs who helped me along those critical years of the PhD; Marcelo Masman and Marleen Otzen. Marleen and Marcelo, thank you for being so supportive, for giving critical advice, and supporting not only my research, but for supporting me in the many difficult moments of the PhD.
Thank you to all the amazing people that I met in the laboratory, and with who I shared lots of fun, parties, science and gossip: Hugo, Mathew, Willem, Thaito-chan, Ana Toplack, Hanna Dudek, Antonija, Jeroen, Maximiliam, Mohammahed, Danna, Hemant, Marzena, Alex Ferrari, Nikola, Sambicka, Elvira, Elisa, Cora, and Suzanne. A special thanks, from a deep place in my heart, to Patricia, Aline and Guille who helped me through the first years of living on this side of the world. It was fun to share adventures, parties, and the milestones of our lives together.

Misun and Friso you have my sincere gratitude for helping me prepare the defense, for investing many hours on preparing the thesis, and for motivating me to have the party afterwards. You were witnesses to two of the most important moments of my life, and for me your support is irreplaceable.
Misun, you deserve a paragraph of your own. Miss Lee you are, with no doubt, one of the best friends that I will ever have in my life. I never thought that a girl coming from the exact other side of the world would end up being one of my best friends. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me, for listening, for tolerating me, and for letting me join your important moments. I hope we can keep this friendship for many years.

Hablar con ustedes me llena el corazón de alegría porque sé que tengo dos amigas que valen más que el oro. Las quiero mucho y les deseo lo mejor para ustedes y su familia.
Hermano y papa, gracias por su amor y compañía durante todos estos años. Su cariño y apoyo me han ayudado a lo largo de mi vida y mi educación. Siempre los voy a querer. Mamá y Joris. Mamá, te quiero con toda mi alma y mi corazón. Gracias, por ser mi mamá, por quererme, por tolerarme, y por darme tantos años de tu vida para cuidarme.
