Jessy Rouhana was born in Bickfaya, Lebanon, on the 2nd of July 1989. In 2007 she moved to France to study and persue her dream of becoming a biologist. In 2010 she received her bachelor degree in Physiology and Cell Biology from Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France. During this bachelor program her interest in research grew strong and decided to continue a career in science. She enroled in master’s degree in health biology at Paul Sabatier university where she spent 6 month of her Msc1 in Centre de Biologie et du Développement Toulouse-France working on the Cis-regulatory regions of gene promoter tail-up/Islet1, an identity transcription factor of embryonic dorsal acute2 muscle (DA2) in

Drosophila melanogaster. After graduation from Msc1 in 2011 she enrolled in a second

master degree, in Anthropology and Human Genetics where she spent 6 month in AMIS Laboratory Toulouse France, working on identification and interpretation of infectious diseases, from human remains found in the Mans archaeological site. In 2012 she received her second masters degree from Paul Sabatier University. In 2013, she started her double degree PhD in University of Groningen, The Netherlands and University of East Anglia, UK. The results of her project are presented in this thesis. During the PhD she attended and presented her work in several international and national conferences. Additionally, she devoted a part of her time assisting bachelor and master courses as well supervising students during their research projects.
