" Mother-to-infant bonding: determinants and impact on child development. Challenges for maternal health care."
1. Mother-to-infant bonding is a process that starts during pregnancy and continues postnatally. (This thesis)
2. Mother-to-infant bonding and good maternal mental health contributes to child behavioral and emotional development. (This thesis)
3. The use of intrapartum synthetic oxytocin should be carefully considered in women at risk of a postnatal depression. (This thesis)
4. Midwives can improve their performance, and adhere to the guideline Prenatal midwifery care, by addressing the transition to motherhood using open questions. (This thesis)
5. Midwives should take the initiative to address the transition to motherhood in multiparous women. (This thesis)
6. The scientific evidence for the effectiveness of interventions aimed at mother-to-infant bonding is limited. Interventions such as group education aimed at bonding and attachment, may offer perspectives for the future. (This thesis)
7. Professionals involved in maternity care should monitor mother-to-infant bonding from early pregnancy on. (This thesis)
