About the author

Petra Wieke de Jong was born in Delft, the Netherlands on March 15, 1992. In 2013, she obtained her Bachelor degree in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences at Utrecht University. In spring 2015, she graduated cum laude and as best student from the Research Master program Migration, Ethnic Relations and Multiculturalism at Utrecht University. From July 2015 until October 2018, Petra worked as a PhD candidate at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI). Her dissertation was part of the broader project ‘MobileWelfare:

European welfare systems in times of mobility’, funded by Norface. Petra has

presented her work at international scientific conferences, including among others the International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion (IMISCOE) conference, the European Population Conference (EPC) and the Pan-European Conference on International Relations. In the Netherlands, she was invited to present her research at the Dutch Economics Day (‘Nederlandse Economendag’), the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (‘Ministerie van Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid’) and the Ministry of Justice and Security (‘Ministerie van Justitie en Veiligheid’). Currently, Petra is working as a post-doctoral researcher at NIDI on the joint NIDI-IISG KNAW funded research project “Dynamic Lives: Life Courses of the Second Generation in Perspective”.
