Why would you want to equip robots with a human-like perception of time? I don’t really know, but I’m glad that we were able to try.
Hedderik and Ritske, my supervisors, were most directly involved in making this project a successful one. I am grateful to you for your input, support, and encourage-ment. Ritske, thank you for your patience and guidance. Hedderik, thank you for always being enthusiastic about my ideas, even when they started to take me away from a traditional academic career. It also feels like I should thank the two of you (and the other members of the selection committee), for picking Atser and me for these two PhD positions that were offered 4 years ago, because:
Atser, my closest collaborator, (conference) travel buddy, paranymph and friend. Sharing so many interests and views made it such fun to discuss ideas, funny ideas, and weird ideas with you, and to work some of them out, too. Your contagious calm- and relaxedness helped me through some stretches of the project. Thank you.
Tineke, office roommate, paranymph, and dear friend. I'm so grateful that we were put together in one office (and Wisnu, of course). Thank you for your support, friendship, and always being open to (often) more and (sometimes) less off-topic dis-cussions. I know I can always count on you. Thank you for that.
It was very exciting to see the Temporal Cognition Group grow substantially during my time at the lab. Sarah, Robbert, Max, Josh, Wouter, Martin, Joost, Soha and Sajad: Thank you all for interesting discussions, for your support, and for the time that we spent together outside of the faculty as friends.
