Curriculumm vitae
Onn 9 September 1972 I was born as Franciscus Antonius Maria Oscar Lemmers in Venray,, a small city in the South East of the Netherlands. For various reasons my parentss decided that in ordinary life I'd be called Oscar. In Venray I attended the secondaryy school "Katholieke Scholengemeenschap Jerusalem", where I received my Gymnasiumm beta diploma in 1990.
Afterwards,, I started studying mathematics at the Catholic University Nijmegen. A thesiss on ideals in rings of functions was written under the able guidance of dr. Ronald Kortram,, and I received a Master of Science degree in August 1997.
Theree was still so much to be seen in the world of mathematics, thus the opportunity too become a PhD student at the department of mathematics of the University of Amsterdamm was very welcome. I started in September 1997. In Nijmegen I only studiedd functions of one complex variable, whereas in Amsterdam those of several complexx variables became my field of research. The result is this thesis, written underr the splendid guidance of dr. Jan Wiegerinck.
Duringg September and October 1999, I was a guest in Sundsvall, Sweden, at the Midd Sweden University. This was both a pleasant and useful visit, and I am grateful too Mid Sweden University and the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO)) for their hospitality and financial support that made it possible.
Itt makes me very happy that the university of Umea and Mid Sweden University givee me the opportunity to return to Sweden. There I shall continue my research for aa while.
Outsidee mathematics, a non-trivial part of my life has been devoted to chess. There weree (shared) first prizes in the tournaments of Dieren (the Netherlands), Kecskemet (Hungary)) and Olomouc (Czech Republic). Other highlights include playing in the Worldd Championship for Students and the European Club Cup. For my results I was awardedd the title of International Master by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) in 2000. .
