duurzame verpakking kunnen staan om duurzaam zelfbeeld te verhogen en vervolgens de
aankoopintentie van de consument te verhogen.
Daarnaast is het interessant om te onderzoeken of de positionering van een product met een duurzame verpakking geoptimaliseerd kan worden, zodat de productattitude en aankoopintentie van een product met een duurzame verpakking verder zal toenemen. In deze studie is al gevonden dat het belangrijk is om een cosmeticaproduct met een duurzame verpakking gendercongruent te positioneren, maar naast een gendercongruente positionering zou een product met een duurzame verpakking ook functioneel of emotioneel gepositioneerd kunnen worden (Hartmann, Ibanez, & Sainz, 2005). Een verpakking met een functionele positionering bevat gedetailleerde informatie over de duurzaamheid van de verpakking. Een verpakking met een emotionele positionering bevat afbeeldingen van de natuur of teksten die gevoelens van duurzaamheid oproepen (Hartmann et al, 2005). Uit de studie van Hartmann et al. (2005) blijkt dat zowel een functionele als een emotionele positionering kunnen leiden tot een hogere productattitude, maar dat de combinatie van een functionele en emotionele
positionering van een verpakking leidt tot de hoogste productattitude. Volgend onderzoek zou duurzame verpakkingen van producten met een gendercongruente positionering kunnen combineren met een functionele en emotionele positionering om te onderzoeken of de aankoopintentie en productattitude van een product met een duurzame verpakking zal stijgen.
