De kwaliteit van de uitkomsten kan worden verbeterd door een grotere of een statistisch onderbouwde steekproef te nemen uit de gehele populatie (Nederlandse scheepvaart-ondernemingen). De kwaliteit kan tevens worden verbeterd door meer bijzondere waardeverminderingen in het onderzoek te betrekken en door de waarnemingen binnen de steekproef evenredig te verdelen. Wanneer publiekelijk beschikbare informatie wordt gebruikt is het onderzoek reproduceerbaar.
