9.4 Ongevallen met brandstoffen en smeermiddelen

Morsen kan optreden bij het vullen van machines met brandstoffen of smeermiddelen. Het risico op morsen is groter bij kleinere machines, omdat deze vaker moeten bijgevuld worden (vb. motorzaag). Het gebruik van een automatische vuldop voor het tanken van een motorzaag vermijdt morsen. Voor de meer viskeuze kettingolie is een dergelijke dop minder praktisch, en is dus voorzichtigheid geboden bij het overgieten. Brandstof tanken bij grotere machines moet gebeuren met gepast materiaal, en bij voorkeur buiten het bos of op de bosweg. Olie verversen in het bos is niet toegelaten.

Bij ongevallen met machines kunnen grote hoeveelheden brandstoffen en smeermiddelen in het bos vrijkomen, aangezien exploitatiemachines soms enkele honderden liters koolwaterstoffen meevoeren. Denk hierbij aan het (eerder courante) breken van een hydraulische slang van een harvester, zware motorschade, omkantelen, ... Ongevallen kunnen zoveel mogelijk vermeden worden door goed onderhoud van machines (nakijken van drukleidingen) en veilige werktechnieken (vb. op hellingen).
