De hoofdvraag van dit afstudeerproject is Wat is de rol a de ergotherapeut op de ICU? .
Uit dit onderzoek blijkt dat de rol van de ergotherapeut op de ICU het vroegtijdig in kaart brengen en behandelen van handelingsproblemen is middels een patiënt-gecentreerde werkwijze. Belangrijk is dat op de ICU altijd gekeken moet worden naar veiligheid en het meest noodzakelijke voor de patiënt op dat moment. Om patiënt-gecentreerd werken mogelijk te maken moet duidelijk gecommuniceerd worden met alle betrokkenen. Op deze manier wordt helder wat iedereen doet en kunnen de wensen van de patiënt centraal worden gesteld. De behandelingen van ergotherapeuten zullen opgebouwd moeten worden aan de hand van de medische status, de wensen en het functioneren van de patiënt. Door patiënten al op de ICU te activeren en zelfredzaamheid te stimuleren is de overgang van de ICU naar een verpleegafdeling kleiner en is de patiënt reeds gestart met het revalidatieproces.
