In deze paper wordt onderzocht welke determinanten invloed hebben op het communiceren van CSR beleid in de mission statements van Europese banken. Hierover was nog maar weinig literatuur te vinden, verschillende onderzoeken onderzochten de determinanten van CSR bij banken over de hele wereld (Vilar & Simao, 2015; Scholtens, 2009). Er werd ook al onderzoek gedaan naar de determinanten van CSR bij banken in Europese landen, zoals in Polen (Matuszak et al., 2019). Vandaar de focus op de Europese bankensector. Dit werd onderzocht aan de hand van drie determinanten, de regio, de grootte van de bank en de rentabiliteit in zeven hypothesen. Om de relatie tussen de regio en de communicatie van CSR in mission statements te onderzoeken werden drie hypothesen gebruikt waarbij telkens één regio vergeleken werd op vlak van één dimensie met de andere Europese regio’s. Bij de vierde hypothese omtrent regio werden twee Europese regio’s vergeleken op vlak van de algemene communicatie van CSR in mission statements. In deze masterproef werden geen significante resultaten gevonden in deze vier hypothesen. Er kan niet gezegd worden dat de regio van een Europese bank invloed heeft op de communicatie van het CSR beleid in hun mission statement.
Om de relatie tussen de andere twee determinanten, de grootte van de bank en de rentabiliteit van de bank, en de communicatie van CSR in mission statements te onderzoeken werd gebruik gemaakt van lineaire regressies. In deze modellen werd ook nog de controlevariabele leeftijd opgenomen. Deze controlevariabele bekeek het effect van leeftijd op de communicatie van CSR in mission statements en werd niet significant bevonden. Voor de grootte van de bank werd een significant positief verband gevonden met het aantal CSR gerelateerde woorden in de mission statements van Europese banken. In deze paper kan dus gesteld worden dat grote Europese banken meer aandacht hebben voor hun CSR beleid in mission statements dan kleine Europese banken. De rentabiliteit van de bank heeft in deze paper geen significant effect op de communicatie van het CSR beleid in mission statements bij Europese banken.
