Dit onderzoek verklaart waarom de lobby van de waterschappen op het ‘one out, all out’ principe niet succesvol is geweest. Ondertussen ervaren de waterschappen nog steeds de nadelen die het principe met zich mee brengt. Zo laat het ‘one out, all out’ principe vaak geen vooruitgang van de waterkwaliteit zien. Dit maakt de financiële verantwoording voor de waterschappen van maatregelen moeilijk. Ook de eindbeoordeling van de KRW in 2027 komt steeds dichterbij. Daarom lobbyen de waterschappen nog steeds voor een alternatieve weergave van de waterkwaliteit en tegen het ‘one out, all out’ principe. De toekomst voor een alternatieve weergave is hoopvol: een van de respondenten meldde dat de waterdirecteuren een mogelijkheid voor alternatieve weergave opgenomen hebben in een guide document dat mogelijk onderdeel zal worden van het CIS.
