Majid Yavarian was born in Ardebil (northwest Iran) the 22nd of November 1956 (or in

1335 according to the Iranian calandar, which might explain his white hairs).

After finishing primary school edication iin 1969, Majid attended a scientific lyceum from which he graduated in 1975. His degree in “Medical Lab Science”was obtained at Tehran University in 1979 and a second degree in “Medicine” was obtained at Shiraz University in 1991.

The professional experience of Drs. Yavarian can be briefly summarized as follows. Experience in medical laboratory science:

1991-1993 Head of Laboratory at Shaheed Mohamadi Hosppital (University Hospital)

1992-present Lecturer in Laboratory Haematology 1994-present Head of “Thalassemia Research Centre”

Member of the Research Committee at Bandar Abbas Medical Faculty

1997-present Member of Editorial Board of “The medical Journal of Bandar Abbas University”.

2000-present Head of Laboratory at Children University Hospital Research Project in Iran and abroad:

1990- Myelodysplastic syndrome in Southern Iran.

1993- Thalassemia screening in the general population of the city of Bandar Abbas 1994- Anemia screening in secondary school ppupulations in Bandar Abbas

(focussed on iron deficiency).

1995- G6PD deficiency screening in secondary school populations in Bandar Abbas 1996- Prevalence of Hemoglobinopathies in the Hormozgan province.

1997- Molecular spectrum of -thalassemia in the Hormozgan province in collaboration with the Hemoglobinopathies Laboratory at Leiden University. 1998- 1HRQDWDO6FUHHQLQJIRU -thalassemia in Bandar Abbas in collaboration with
