Curriculum Vitae

Helmer J. Helmers werd in 1977 geboren in Amersfoort. Hij studeerde Taal- en

Cultuurstudies aan de Universiteit Utrecht, waar hij in 2004 cum laude afstudeerde in de specialisatie Studies van de Renaissance en Barok. Voor zijn scriptie Nae ’s landts

gheleghentheit won hij in 2005 de scriptieprijs van Werkgroep De Zeventiende Eeuw.

Vanaf september van dat jaar werkte hij als aio aan het Leids Universitair Instituut voor Culturele Disciplines (Pallas) aan zijn dissertatieonderzoek en doceerde hij Engelse en Nederlandse vroegmoderne letterkunde aan de universiteiten van Leiden, Groningen en Utrecht. Sinds 2010 is hij als docent Oudere Nederlandse letterkunde verbonden aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Helmers publiceerde diverse peer-reviewed artikelen over vroegmoderne literatuur, publieke opinie en Engels-Nederlandse uitwisseling in internationale boeken en tijdschriften.

Helmer J. Helmers was born in Amersfoort (The Netherlands) in 1977. In 2004 he graduated cum laude in Renaissance and Baroque Studies at Utrecht University. His thesis, Nae ’s landts gheleghentheit, won the award of the Society for Seventeenth Century Studies in 2005. From September 2005 onwards, he worked on his dissertation as a research assistant at the Leiden University Institute for Cultural Disciplines (Pallas). He has lectured on early modern English and Dutch at the universities of Leiden, Groningen and Utrecht and is currently working as a lecturer in Medieval and Early Modern Dutch Literature at the University of Groningen. Helmers has published articles on early modern literature, public opinion, and Anglo-Dutch exchange in various international, peer-reviewed books and journals.
