Now it is the real moment to say thanks. During my more than 4 years of PhD journey, the gained experiences are warm, worth and remembering. All these experiences will help to move forward in my future endeavours. In my whole journey of PhD, my supervisor, my colleagues, my friends and my family continuously help and support me in all possible ways. Without their help and support, may be I couldn’t finish my PhD successfully within time.

I came here at Groningen in September, 2015, and spent 4 years away from home and family, which is not that easy. But, my group member, friends and their families all give me a family feeling. All the spending time and experiences will be always in my memory album for my whole life.

First of all, I would like to thanks my supervisor Prof. Edwin Otten. I know formal thanks is

not enough for you. Still thank you for choosing me as an eligible PhD candidate for the given research topics. I feel really proud for getting opportunity to work with you. During my PhD, you have always guided me in each and every step to take the right decision at the right time. Whenever I got frustrated and became completely down, you motived me by providing proper advises and right directions. I want to thank you for your continuous feedbacks on my presentation style which help me to improve my presentation skills. You also gave me opportunity to attend several national and international symposia and conferences which provide me the stages for knowing the scientific communities around the globe. You are not only my supervisor but also my philosopher and pioneer. I am really proud to have you in my life as my mentor. I felt really happy to see (I want to share it with you all) whenever any student faced any problems, Edwin always solved the problem with lot of patience and prudence. I

think if the working environment is not nice it is very difficult to work productively. Edwin has

always provided us this nice working environment. I will be highly grateful to you through out my whole life.

I would like to thank reading committee Prof. Matthias Driess, Prof. Gerard Roelfes and Prof. Syuzanna R. Harutyunyan for their valuable time to read my thesis, insightful

comments which definitively help to improve the quality of my thesis, and also for approving my thesis. I am also thankful to Prof. A. J. Minnaard, Dr. J.C. Slootweg, Prof. Wesley R. Browne, Prof. Dr. Martin D. Witte and Dr. J.E.M.N. Klein for accepting to be part of my

opposition on my defense day.

I want to thank Prof. Wesley R. Browne for giving me time and valuable suggestions whenever

I seek help from him. During MOLAN meetings, R and D interviews, Werkbespreking your critical questions and suggestions allow me to think more critically which help me to become

more independent. Thank you very much for giving me access to use spectroscopic facilities in your laboratory. Your suggestions on how to work and utilize resources efficiently help me to finish my PhD research work within 4 years. Thank you very much for your guidance and patience with all my annoying questions. Not only these, there are several other tricks you have provided me; there will be no end for mentioning those.

Also, I want to thank Dr. Johaness Klein for his questions and valuable suggestions. I am really

glad to have you as a collaborator and for teaching me new computational method with lots of patience.

I would like to thank Dr. Remco Havenith for his suggestions and help in computational

studies.

I also want to say thank to my colleagues, the whole Otten group. First of all, I want to thank you for accepting me as your family member and give me a home feeling. It always help me to work positively. You guys always listen to my problems and give me possible suggestions to overcome all these problems, either professional or personal.

Francesca Milocco, you have joined just after I have joined in this wonderful group, and we

shared the same lab for more than 3.5 years. You are the only(!!) girl PhD in our research group. I really like your working and organizing style. It was a great pleasure to work with you. You took great care of several lab related things. It is very well known to our group members that how important a task to maintain good & proper working condition of gloveboxes. I want to thank you for taking good care of gloveboxes. You are a great chemist, helpful and direct (became more Dutch day by day!). We shared many borrels, BBQ and some other wonderful moments. I am really thankful to you for listening several personal problems with great patience. During my last stage of my PhD, I was sick due to the viral fever (hottest summer at Groningen: 38 ℃). Several time you have asked me about my health condition. Your support was immensely valued by me. I know that very soon you are also going to finish your PhD and going to defense you PhD thesis. I wish you all the best for your future endeavors. My special thanks to you for being my paranymph for the thesis defense.

Beibei, I had overlapped with you from more than two years. Not only we shared the same lab,

but also we took several group lunches, many borrels; those experiences ware awsome and it remained awesome throughout last two years. Although, initially it was very difficult for me to catching up with you properly due to linguistic barrier but during the passing of clock our communication improved a lot. You are doing great in Ru chemistry, i used to get astonished to saw your level of patience during performing column chromatography. I am also thankful to you for being one of my paranymph for my PhD defense.

My special thanks to Milon da, who helped me a lot at the beginning and also throughout course

of my PhD hood. I still remember that how many time I used to ring you for suggestions before coming to Groningen. Those days I didn't had Dutch account and credit card, you helped me to reserve a room for me from SSH by paying from your account. You astonished me further when I saw you and Gurudas came to Groningen station to welcome and receive me, it was really warm and full of heart, thank you very much Milon da.

Cooking Indian dishes away for home on those friday nights with Gurudas and Abhishek da

is something which will never wayened away from the locker of my heart. Thank you Bhavan vaiya and Arunesh for your help and suggestions to overcome the professional and personal

issues.

I would like to thanks Subrata Kundu Da, Marco Wonink and Anirban Mondal (Anibani), Arijit da, Kumar Sourav da, Selva Raj, Siva Sudhan, Saurabh Soni, Mohammad Saif and Abhijit Mal.

I got a new family in Groningen. With their support and warmth I felt like at home. Tuhin da, Enasky, Arunesh, Suvasree, Rahul da, Abisweta and Golu (one and only our little champ

nephew). Very recently, two new members, Hiren da and Mayuri are added to our family. I

am gonna miss the gathering at Rahul da’s house, Enakshi’s special biryani (“Neoul’s

Biryani”), and above all Golu’s unique smile.

I would also like to thanks Arnab da and Annex family for their supports and helps.

I am not completed without my family. I know formal thanks is not enough for them. Without my mother’s sacrifice and consistent struggle to inspire and inject this zeal in me to chase my dream, I would not have achieve anything at all. Tightest hugs to my elder brother (Subhas Mondol) to support my study you sacrificed your career, no amount thanks will be good enough

to thank you properly. I am also thankful to my other elder brother, Prasenjit Mondol, for your

insightful discussions, suggestions and guidance through over my career. I would also like to thanks my sister and her family for their continueous help and support.
